As I know, clutch pressing and neutral gear both disengage the engine from wheels. So will it matter if I do not press the clutch if I start in neutral?

What's the best gear to leave a manual vehicle in when parked?

I've been told that reverse is the "strongest" gear, so in a manual transmission vehicle you should park your vehicle and leave it in reverse in the event of a parking brake failure. Others have said first or second gear are fine as well. Is there a…

Is shifting to neutral on a decline more fuel efficient than keeping the gear engaged?

I always had the habit of shifting to neutral on long declines and using the brakes to slow down as needed. Intuition made me believe I'd be saving fuel as opposed to keeping a gear engaged. However, I noticed that the on-board fuel consumption…

Is reverse gear in a manual transmission equivalent to any other gear?

Question is pretty well summarized in the title. If we were to order gears in terms of power provided, where would reverse fall between gears 1-5 on a manual transmission vehicle? Does it vary by vehicle?

Why do we push start cars in second gear?

I always wondered why you have to be in second gear when push starting a car. I know what all the process does, so my thought is that it would be better to do it in first gear. I think this because in first gear you can have more rpm with less speed…
