I’m looking at purchasing a 2008 ford ranger with 150k miles. It has the 4.0 engine with an automatic transmission. The price is 4000. There’s three issues that jump out at me

  1. This transmission (I think) leak. All around the pan is covered with gunk. See pics

  2. When driving, there’s a slight vibration from the drive train when taking off. Online forums makes this seem as not really an issue.

  3. Passenger door panel gap. Car was probably hit before, but it’s a clean title. Can this be adjusted?

The 2008 Ranger is robust, typically lasting well over 200,000 miles without requiring major repair. Given the vibration from standing and a leaking ATF pan, however, a potential transmission rebuild could cost about $2,800.

How does that door close? If it feels perfectly normal, it might just be a fender panel that's loose. Personally, I would just ignore it.

Overall, the price is very fair, even with a tranny rebuild. See for yourself at kbb.com.
