What happens to one's alternative assets when one is incarcerated?

Assets such as real estate or vehicles. A home requires property taxes to be paid in a timely manner and maintenance to be periodically performed, with certain maintenance being required by town code An auto needs inspections and periodic maintenance as well even when unused.

And note, these assets are not part of a fine or forfeiture, simply titled in the convicts name.

For this question, the property is not jointly title, no trust in involved, and the convict does not have a spouse or children.

They appoint an attorney

Note that the word is being used in its traditional sense meaning representative, rather than the US sense as a synonym for lawyer. Of course, a lawyer can also be an attorney.

An attorney is a person authorized by law to deal with another person’s property interests.

Prisoners can own property.

The inmate would talk to his or her lawyer (or a similar person) about these and other assets and contracts. Telling an employer that one won't show up for work, cancelling insurance contracts which no longer make sense, etc. A car might be stored or more likely sold (unless it is a very short sentence), and the lawyer might put the real estate up for rent or sell it.
