Problem and Example

I have ordered a "Gosund 2.5 & 5GHz Smart Plug". Attempting to connect it via the Tuya application's GUI doesn't work because it doesn't ever see the device:

Has anyone been successful in this endeavour?

Diagnosis

I've tried:

  1. Unplugging and re-plugging;
  2. Cancelling and recommending pairing;
  3. Re-installing the application; and:
  4. Re-connecting to my Wi-Fi network.
Environment

I have an RUTXR1 router broadcasting the same SSID at 2.4 and 5 GHz, so the plug should connect even if it doesn't support ≈5GHz bands.

The plug is connected to a standard BS 1363 extension lead, via a power meter.

Solution

community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Wi-Fi-5-AC-and-Orbi-with/Orbi-RBR50-Trying-to-connect-Gosund-Smart-Plugs/m-p/2338018/highlight/true#M145501 states exactly what to do:

  1. Open the Gosund app
  2. Go into each device, click the edit/setup pencil icon in the top-right of the screen
  3. At the bottom, select "Remove Device", and then select the option to "wipe data" - repeat this process for all plugs that need to be reset
  4. Back at the main screen, press the "+" button to add a new device
  5. Select the socket/plug option
  6. Enter your wifi name and pw
  7. On the "Reset your device" screen, press "EZ Mode" in the top right, which will display a quick-pick menu
  8. Select "AP Mode" from the menu
  9. Plug the device in and confirm it is in 'slow blink' mode and, if not, long-press the button until you get a slow blink
  10. Select "Go to Connect" to bring you to your phone's wifi setting to select the "SmartLifexxxx" wifi connection
  11. Return to the app to complete the device connection

How unintuitive. At least it worked:
