I have a small machine (AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 4350G with Radeon Graphics; 16 GB) which I solely use for browsing, emails, etc., i.e., no heavy workload at all.

The machine runs Ubuntu 24.04.02 LTS for quite a while without any issues. However, since yesterday (literally from one day to the next), the machine becomes very sluggish without any changes. Even just when opening the terminal it takes a few seconds before I can see the prompt and start typing.

So far, I've check the following:

  • htop looks fine; low CPU and memory usage (no swapping)
  • hardinfo looks fine; normal CPU clock and low temperatures everywhere
  • journalctl -f nothing obvious stands out (but I can't really tell what to look for)

I cannot even tell if its an issue with my Ubuntu installation or the machine itself. At least so far, I didn't had any crashes or something, so overall the systems seems to work. Just much slower than. What are other things I could look into and try?
