I am new to using Ubuntu in a dual boot environment. But not new to Linux / Ubuntu as I have used WSL 2 a lot

I am trying to grapple with some issues relating to booting into a dual boot environment that I just created.

This is what my GRUB menu looks like

Ubuntu
Advanced Options for Ubuntu
Memory Test (some option here)
Memory test (some option here)
Windows Boot Manager
UEFI Firmware settings

The first option Ubuntu doesn't work properly. The login screen is displayed It then fades away (yes simply vanishes) or the system hangs. In short I cant login using the login screen. I have no option but to hardboot the system as it is freezes

When I select the second option Advanced Options for Ubuntu and select the sub option (recovery mode) and then select resume, I am able to log into Ubuntu without any issue whatsoever

I have tried a number of things with ChatGPT but I can't seem to solve the issue. I understand that I have provided only a high level explanation. I am willing to provide details if required.

Here is information that may be useful

  1. Platform: Laptop
  2. Dell Latitude 7490
  3. 512 SSD / 16 GB Ram
  4. Ubuntu Partition Size - 150GB

I would like to solve this issue. Do provide any inputs that may be if use. Let me know if you need any additional details

Sincerely

Nomad

The fact that it is booting properly in recovery mode suggest a driver not working as expected. You may removed all "3rd party" driver since Generic driver are working.

You can also try what is proposed on that post which looks more friendly since the proposed solution is to use the recovery mode to correct the 3rd party driver like nvidia driver: Why am I only able to boot ubuntu from recovery mode?
