I'm essentially clueless when it comes to Linux, so please be kind. I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 with kernel version 6.8.0-51-generic, and I'm trying to run upgrades. I keep getting some error message saying that a package installation failed, and while looking at the file operations that are happening while it runs, it says that it can't build 8812au, which seems related to my RealTek wireless USB antenna, the TPLink Archer T3U, I believe.
It seems to try to upgrade to 6.8.0-52-generic, but it always fails. When I try to boot, it just sits there with a black screen. I have to hold the shift key during boot to get to GRUB and select the old 0-51-generic kernel every time I want to use my PC, which is quite annoying. Does anyone have a clue how to get around this issue and successfully get updates working again? I apologize in advance for not being the most tech savvy. I have an IT degree, but it's been at least a dozen years since I've been in the industry.
Thanks much.
