Windows 11 is already on my desktop and both wired Internet and internal wifi (ASUS Z890 motherboard with wifi adaptor) work. Now I have tried to install Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS in dual boot mode, but in the installation process, I found that Ubuntu doesn't detect the wired and wifi connections.

I searched on Google to solve this issue and some of the information of the network adaptors and the kernel are as follows, but in the end, I couldn't solve this issue.

  • Could you please help me how I can solve this issue?
  • Why doesn't Ubuntu 24.04 find the internet connections automatically during the installation process?

I solved this issue by installing Ubuntu 25.04, not 24.04. I am actually fine with either way: MEDIATEK MT7902 (motherboard wifi) or Realtek RTL8125 (wired LAN connection). It turned out that my motherboard (ASUS Z890 AYW GAMING WIFI W) is a very new product (available from Jan 2025) and thus is not very compatible with previous Ubuntu versions.

But, the latest one 25.04 successfully detected the 'Realtek RTL8125' automatically during its installation process, so I just decided to use Ubuntu 25.04 instead of 24.04. Unfortunately, even 25.04 didn't recognize the 'MEDIATEK MT7902'. Perhaps it is too early for Ubuntu to use an internal motherboard wifi adapter (my PC is a desktop, not a laptop). Hopefully it will become more common even to Ubuntu in the near future.

Please feel free to share if you have a better solution with previous Ubuntu versions (e.g., 24.04 or 22.04).
