I am not asking how to change a password or add a User. I need to enter my own password. I am completely new to Linux. I have received a refurbished Lenovo laptop with Ubuntu 22.04 installed by the refurbisher. When I first received the laptop I tried out various features in Gnome, and I could install DuckDuckGo and make it my default search engine, but I could not install apps or Firefox extensions. In GUI I entered a User name, but my password was not accepted. In terminal I tried 'sudo passwd [username]', without success. According to all of the instructions I have found online, to add a user password in terminal (instructions are only for adding a different user) requires already having a password. It seems that I do not have admin (sudo) access. I find no instructions for my situation. I will be the only user of this laptop. I will not be file sharing. I need to transfer Firefox bookmarks, photos, and LibreOffice files from my Macbook, write and edit documents in LibreOffice, access internet sites, listen to podcasts and watch videos online, install apps and extensions. Is there a way I can give myself a password? Do I have to reinstall Ubuntu? If so, how can I be sure that I can give myself a password after the new installation?
