I have been getting message to download and install an upgrade to Chrome under Ubuntu 24.4.2. This I did, following the instructions. It restarted, then told me on opening that it wouldn't work because my profile was for a newer version and it recommended that I install a newer version.
I followed the instructions at:
How to update Chrome in Ubuntu 20.04
and after the edit and upgrade/update I got back from terminal:
peter@xyz:~$ sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable

google-chrome-stable is already the newest version (80.0.3987.132-1).
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 1 not to upgrade.
According to Wikipedia the lastest version should be 135.0.7049.95/96
Clearly I am not installing (not picking up?) the current version.
Is this a snap issue? The App Centre doesn't appear to want to do anything about it.
Can anyone help? I have tried a number of times and still get the same issue.
Can anyone out there help? I really don't want to go through a complete system re-install, which I have tried and which the system doesn't seem to want to do anyway.
