I installed the TTS software “Balabolka” according to this answer and installed the SAPI5 voices according to that answer. About a month after installation, the SAPI5 voices stopped working. When I try to open “Balabolka”, I get an error message that reads:

KobaSpeech 3

KobaSpeech 3 was not activated (error 0x00000400).


Use the KobaSpeech 3 Activation dialog box to activate.


Until this issue is resolved, the KobaSpeech 3 Vocalizer voices will be unavailable.

I can solve this problem if I reinstall everything – that is, “Balabolka” and the corresponding SAPI5 voices – in a new Wine environment, but this is quite tedious if I have to do this every month.

What can I do to solve this problem once and for all?

Disclaimer: I have no expertise in any of the applications mentioned. That said, it seems pretty straightforward ...

The KobaSpeech website specifically says:

Trial period of 30 days. Download your trial version here!

If you have not purchased a license to the software, then it seems likely that this would be the reason the voices stop working after 30 days.
