I reinstalled the 6.8.0-50.51-generic kernel (sudo apt install linux-image-6.8.0-50-generic) into my GRUB, rebooted and everything is distorted after selecting it - wifi is offline, desktop low rez, etc. - am I not able to use this older kernel with the newer 24.04.2? Tried 6.8.0-51-generic using a deb download installed via software and same messed up system... removed both.
...but my locked 5.15.0-105.115-generic kernel works with 24.04.2 and desktop is fine, wifi OK, etc. (well, except it won't hibernate and suspend/resume trashes my pci wifi - but this kernel has always done that...)
I need advice on how to restore older kernels PROPERLY (I'm 71 w/MS, cancer surgery/chemo survivor, grew up on DOS & CPM, and still struggling to stay w/linux) - I'm sure there's some 'dependencies', or 'repositories', or other stuff I'm stupid on that's making the reinstalled kernels not 'WORK' like they used to - reason I want them back is that firefox seemed not to crash/freeze/logout under them, and has gotten worse with the later kernels to where I'm having to use firefox115esr just to keep things 'stable'. NEED INPUT!
