I recently switched from Windows 11 to Ubuntu 24.04.1, and I’m experiencing an issue with my Bluetooth devices. I have three devices connected to my desktop PC: a Dell Wireless Keyboard, a Dell Wireless Mouse, and a Dell Wireless Headset. All devices are paired and show up correctly in the Bluetooth settings (taskbar > Bluetooth).

Here’s the problem: after restarting my PC, the keyboard and mouse auto-connect just fine, but the headset does not. While the headset appears in the Bluetooth device list, the "Connect" button is visible, and when I click it, nothing happens. The only way to reconnect the headset is to manually put it in pairing mode and then click "Connect."

Note: The same issue occurs if I manually disconnect the headset from "Bluetooth Settings." Once disconnected, I am unable to reconnect it unless I put the headset back into pairing mode.

When I was using Windows 11, the headset would automatically reconnect after restarting the PC, as expected. Is there any way to force Ubuntu to reconnect the headset automatically after a restart so I don’t have to repeatedly put it in pairing mode?

System Specs:

OS: Ubuntu 24.04.1
PC: Dell Precision 3680 Tower
Bluetooth Adapter: Intel Wi-Fi 6/6E (6GHz) AX211 2x2 Bluetooth 5.3 Wireless Card (External Antenna)
Headset: Dell Headset WL5022

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

This seems to be caused by a bug in the version of BlueZ packaged with Ubuntu (see discussion on Ubunutu Discourse and the related issue on the bluez GitHub). Downloading the latest version from GitHub and building/installing from source fixed the issue on my machine.
