I have just upgraded using the Ubuntu Software & Updates feature (Aktualisierungsverwaltung on my German version), as I do every six months or so, this time from 24.04 to 24.10. Everything seems to have gone smoothly but I'm sure I will have a few teething problems which the experts here will help me solve. But having just finished the upgrade I have a one question:
The Ubuntu Software & Updates upgrade takes over an hour and I would like to be able to set it running and then go away and do something else, but the upgrade process keeps stopping to ask me if want to keep certain configuration files, Grub files etc. I cannot imagine why anyone would not want to keep his configuration files for stuff like bluetooth/input.conf, I mean my bluetooth devices haven't changed just because there is a new Ubuntu release. So why can't I declare I want to keep my configuration files at the start of the upgrade so I can leave it to complete without any further inputs from me?
Edit: I should have mentioned that I use the Ubuntu Software & Updates feature (Aktualisierungsverwaltung on my German version) to update/upgrade. The answers given below are using the Apt commandline to upgrade. I think my question is still valid because question is actually about whether the Software & Updates feature, which tells me when an upgrade is available and offers to install it, has the option to override the yes/no prompts.
