after downloading the Kubuntu.iso I wanted to make a bootable usb stick.

Which is the program like Rufus or img32burn on Windows, to just pick the usb and iso and check to make it bootable on Linux?

The outdated documentation recommended k3b - which has no options for USB - vasting my time. And dd on commandline did not work.

On Ubuntu or Kubuntu use startup disk creator. Another alternative is balena etcher.
