I'm having issues completing my install of Ubuntu 24.04. It has been installing for about 4 hours now from a bootable USB created using Rufus.
The installation is on an HP Pavilion 550 running Windows 10. I had created a partition/ by shrinking C: I have a 1TB HD, and made a 45GB partition for Ubuntu. I will install it as the sole OS down the road.
The first part of the installation went OK. I created a username and a password.
I did select all options to install as much updates and software as possible. I made it to the install splash screen and was getting the indicator at the bottom showing it was active.
At this point though after 3 hours it is still on only the 'Help and Support' install splash screen page. No option to skip and nothing like 'Copying files....' at the bottom of it.
I am able to select the 'pause' button and that was reactive, and I unpaused it but it just stays with this page as if it is not done.
The apps are available at the side and I can toggle the display options, etc. in the top right of the screen.
I am able to access my USB hard drives and see files, though I'm not able to play a video yet. I tried an .avi and it shows it is playing, but it just shows a black screen.
Firefox loads and plays YouTube videos fine.
Install is via Ethernet and internet is running fine.
I'm not sure if it is actually complete or having trouble with some of the extras to be installed.
How long should an I stall take, and how can I check for what may be getting me stuck on this page?
