May be this is a silly question, but I was not able to find a proper answer yet. So, what is the difference between installing a given Ubuntu flavour or installing the normal Ubuntu and then put the desired desktop environment on top of it? For example, is it better to install Ubuntu Budgie or install Ubuntu and then put the Budgie desktop in it? Or install Kubuntu instead of Ubuntu + KDE Plasma? Etc. I presume that it should not be the same, otherwise there would not be any reason for having so many flavours, am I right?
