I'm trying to dual boot Windows + Ubuntu using the same HD. However, I've tried to make a partition to install the Linux distribution and unfortunately it has only 16GB of space.

I know that I can use this available space to install Ubuntu, but I'm not sure if its sufficient given my purpose (Code in C, use RStudio, and maybe create some latex documents).

So, I have some questions:

  1. Can I install Ubuntu programs outside its partition?

  2. Given that Ubuntu will be allocated at the end of the HD (I guess), should I have to worry about slow performance of the OS?
