Upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

Question

I'm trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 from Ubuntu 18.04.5. After apt update & apt upgrade, I'm trying to

do-release-upgrade

I get the following error:

    An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. 
    This was likely caused by: 
    Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu 
    Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge 
    package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and 
    try the upgrade again.

I see that I've previously installed ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test and ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi that cause the issue.

So I try to purge them, but get the following error:

Looks like the purge is failing as the server is no longer available?

How can I remove the packages manually?

I had a similar problem with doing an upgrade from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS.

I had to remove the broken packages listed in /var/log/dist-upgrade/[CURRENT_DATE]/apt.log

list broken packages:

grep Broken /var/log/dist-upgrade/[CURRENT_DATE]/apt.log

Then remove each of those broken packages:

apt remove gsettings-desktop-schemas mutter gir1.2-mutter-6

It might require removing other packages that depend on those.

From the answer here: Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 prevented by 'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.'
The problem is not probably related to mutter try
sudo apt remove python2.7-minimal and sudo apt autoremove

This actually solved my problem.

Upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04
