Atherosclerosis is a disease in which the walls of the arteries develop lesions due to the buildup of fats and other substances. Despite the systemic risk factors of this disease (ie. high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and smoking) these lesions form at regions within the vasculature that experience blood flow profiles that are non-laminar[1].
