Let ${\displaystyle {}M}$ be a set and let

${\displaystyle f\colon M\longrightarrow M}$

be a mapping. An element ${\displaystyle {}x\in M}$ such that ${\displaystyle {}f(x)=x}$ is called a fixed point of ${\displaystyle {}f}$.
