Let ${\displaystyle {}F\colon L\rightarrow M}$ denote a bijective mapping. Then the mapping

${\displaystyle G\colon M\longrightarrow L}$

that sends every element ${\displaystyle {}y\in M}$ to the uniquely determined element ${\displaystyle {}x\in L}$ with ${\displaystyle {}F(x)=y}$, is called the inverse mapping of ${\displaystyle {}F}$.
