As far as I know EC-GSM-IoT is deployed in band with the regular GSM frequencies, but so far I couldn't answer the following questions:
Do providers set aside dedicated frequencies in their GSM range for just EC-GSM-IoT or are the IoT devices listening to and accessing the same GSM channels as regular mobile devices?
Say for example one was using a RTL-SDR to listen to some BCCH, would it be possible to determine if the BTS set aside some frequency for IoT devices.
Or if there no dedicated IoT frequencies, is there any way to figure out if a BTS is supporting EC-GSM-Iot?
Disclaimer: I previously asked the same question over at networking stack exchange: https://networkengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/86942/dedicated-ec-gsm-iot-gsm-frequency-bands
but it didn't gain any traction and I think this question might be more appropriate to ask here.
