As far as I know EC-GSM-IoT is deployed in band with the regular GSM frequencies, but so far I couldn't answer the following questions:

  • Do providers set aside dedicated frequencies in their GSM range for just EC-GSM-IoT or are the IoT devices listening to and accessing the same GSM channels as regular mobile devices?

  • Say for example one was using a RTL-SDR to listen to some BCCH, would it be possible to determine if the BTS set aside some frequency for IoT devices.

  • Or if there no dedicated IoT frequencies, is there any way to figure out if a BTS is supporting EC-GSM-Iot?

Disclaimer: I previously asked the same question over at networking stack exchange: https://networkengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/86942/dedicated-ec-gsm-iot-gsm-frequency-bands

but it didn't gain any traction and I think this question might be more appropriate to ask here.
